It takes days of practice to learn the art of sauntering. commonly we stride through the out-of-doors too swiftly to see more than the most obvious and prominent things. For observing nature, the best pace is a snail's pace.

French Street is a small hamlet lying to the south-east of Westerham, accessible by following French Street Lane east from the B2026 (Hosey Hill).  It is entirely residential, having only houses and a farm (no shops, pub or church).  There is, however, a private burial ground in the centre.  There was a story that
the name derived from French prisoners of war being kept there during the Napoleonic Wars.  There is no truth in this.  In 1254, French Street was the property of one John le Frenche and the name derives from that.
