It's not that I'm afraid to die. I just don't want to be there when it happens.

The Queens Head is a dog (and people)-friendly pub in the middle of Downe village.  They usually stock 4 real ales - typically including Harvey's Sussex best and at least one from Westerham in the line up. They also usually have a real cider (sometimes on handpump, sometimes in a large "bag in box").

Post COVID lockdown, they have also added a tea room and shop with a separate entrance (to the right if you are looking at the pub from the front)

The pub was awarded CAMRA Bromley Borough pub of the year 2014. The bar has a boarded floor (that's why dogs are allowed in) and a fire.  There is also a paved beer garden at the back.

Like many of the pubs in the area, The Queens Head was much frequented by aircrew from Biggin Hill during the second World War. The Queens Head in particular was a favourite of one of the American Eagle squadrons (no 133) - initially formed of American flyers who joined the RAF prior to the US entry into the war. Click here to link to an article about this squadron.
