More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly

Even when the house is not open, Chartwell makes a good stopping point on a ramble as the shop and the restaurant are open seven days a week all year round, apart from a short break around Christmas (but check their website before you come, in case this changes).  There is also a Christmas Fair in early December each year.

There used to be a covered verandah at the front of the restaurant, which people with dogs could shelter under if it was raining.  This is no longer there as the restaurant has been extended into it, but shelter for people with dogs is planned.  There is also an occasional robin redbreast (pictured below) in residence.  There used to be a pheasant which the staff named Winston (naturally).  No muddy boots in the restaurant, please.
