Bulls are allowed under certain circumstances:

  • if the bull, or bulls, is under ten months old then there is no restriction.
  • if the bull is over ten months old and of a recognised dairy breed, it is not allowed in the field under any circumstances.  Dairy breeds comprise Ayrshire, British Friesian, British Holstein, Dairy Shorthorn, Guernsey, Jersey and Kerry.
  • if the bull is over ten months old and of any other breed, it is allowed in the field but only if it is accompanied by cows or heifers.

It should be noted that the above only applies to animals that have not been castrated.  If the animals have been castrated there is no restriction on putting them in a field.
